Puppeteer - The Golden Thread
Dead Puppet Society (DPS) in association with Brisbane Powerhouse. The veil between worlds has grown thin. The golden thread has been cast. The rules are different here. The DPS Academy invites you into a world of magic and myth, where the past and present echo each other and the dust settles differently. Dead Puppet Society once again opened its doors this year to a select group of emerging and mid career artists to join its training academy. The ensemble began meeting weekly at Brisbane Powerhouse to take part in training, to learn various types puppet construction; paper, laser cut and object puppets. A new and original project was developed using a variety of puppet forms, which we'd love to share with you. |
Participant - The Giant Steps Project 4th Step - Viliam Mauritz Author of the Art project, Viliam Mauritz invited representatives from the three previous Giant Steps (Australia, Hungary and Brazil) to attend this event at Tyutchev Museum in Ovstug, Russia for the 4th Giant Step. Fyodor Tyutchev was a much loved 19th century, prolific and respected writer and poet of some influence in Russia. The Tyutchev Museum hosted the event on the 14th July (the annual memorial day), with a number of activities throughout the day and evening. There was traditional Russian folk dancing, weaving, music, lectures, tours through the museum, mime artistry and folkloric singing. Each representative spoke at the event about how the The Giant Step had manifested in their country and how their event had responded to the Art project's overarching question - "What do we leave behind?" Later, as the sun began to set, the enthusiastic attendees made their way to a large grassy area below the building that was the Tyutchev family home and now the museum. They grouped themselves in one of fourteen large circles that had been mowed into the grass and bordered with a band of sawdust. The philosophy of The Giant Step was evident in the cultural 'footprint' that Fyodor Tyutchev had left behind and which was celebrated by young and old alike on this most wonderful and uplifting day. |

Giant Steps is a large scale outdoor Art installation by Suisse based artist, Viliam Mauritz. The installation is a construction of two giant-sized foot prints. Each ‘footprint’ is 100 metres long, 45 metres wide and 4 metres high. The installation will take place on the tidal sands of Sandgate beach in north Brisbane, Australia. It will be constructed by placing 400 prepared bamboo poles, in the sands at low tide. Loretta Henry is Project Manager for this amazing Outdoor Art Installation by Viliam Mauritz, to take place on 10th to 11th October, 2015 on the tidal sands at Sandgate, Brisbane. The artist explains, “As humans we are hampered by our own perspectives. If I had to express my project in one word, I would say it is about ‘questioning.’ What do we leave behind us? What do we destroy? Where are we going? What do we do in order to get out of the maze in which we live? How do we ‘get the whole picture?’ A footprint is a very simple and genuine image. It is universal. Click here Giant Steps if you would like more information.
